In the early hours of Tuesday, the Israeli military announced the launch of a ground military operation in southern Lebanon.
According to a statement from the Israeli army, they have begun limited and targeted raids against Hezbollah positions near the border. These targets, located in villages close to the Israel-Lebanon border, are described as posing a direct threat to civilian populations in northern Israel.
Air and Artillery Support
The statement also highlighted that the Israeli air force and artillery units are providing support to the ground forces through precise strikes on military targets in the region. The operation, referred to as “Northern Arrows”, will continue based on ongoing assessments and in coordination with the fighting in Gaza and other conflict zones.
The Israeli military emphasized that the operations were approved and implemented following directives from the political leadership.
Escalation in Beirut
Earlier reports from Lebanon’s National News Agency indicated increased Israeli air activity over Beirut and its southern suburbs. Late Monday evening, Sky News Arabia’s correspondent in Beirut reported Israeli airstrikes targeting southern suburbs of Beirut, including areas such as Lilaki, Mreijeh, Rweiss, and Bir Al-Abed.
The strikes occurred near Beirut International Airport and followed urgent evacuation orders issued by the Israeli military for certain buildings in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital.
Additionally, Israeli forces called on residents of border towns in southern Lebanon to evacuate, and strict instructions were issued for residents of Upper Galilee in northern Israel to remain near protected areas.
