On Tuesday, the Syrian General Organization of Radio and Television reported the death of Safaa Ahmed, a well-known TV presenter, after an Israeli airstrike on Damascus. Safaa lost her life during this attack. Her last Facebook post, shared just 30 minutes before the airstrike, has been widely circulated on social media. She wrote, “Loud sounds are heard in the skies over Damascus.”
Syrian Military Confirms the Attack
The Syrian military confirmed the airstrike. Israeli forces launched an attack on multiple locations in Damascus. The strike caused the deaths of three civilians, injured nine others, and resulted in significant material damage. According to the military’s statement, “Our air defenses responded to the Israeli assault and shot down most of the missiles.”
SANA, Syria’s state news agency, reported that the attack began at around 2:05 AM, coming from the Golan Heights. A military source noted, “We intercepted most of the missiles fired by Israeli warplanes and drones.”
Increased Israeli Strikes in Syria
Israel has regularly targeted locations in Syria . These attacks have intensified since Hamas launched its offensive on October 7. Israeli strikes aim to weaken Iranian influence in the region by targeting military sites, weapons, and personnel linked to Iran and Hezbollah.
