Early Thursday, Syrian state television reported that an Israeli airstrike targeted the industrial city of Homs, specifically the Husayyah industrial area. A military source stated, “Around 1:00 AM, the Israeli enemy launched an aerial attack from northern Lebanon, targeting a car assembly factory in the Husayah industrial zone and a military site in Hama. The damages were limited to material losses.”
This incident follows reports from the Syrian Ministry of Defense regarding an earlier Israeli airstrike on Tuesday, which resulted in the deaths of seven civilians, including women and children, when an Israeli attack hit a residential building in Damascus. Iranian news agency Fars and the Iranian embassy in Beirut confirmed that there were no Iranian casualties among the victims.
Since the onset of the Syrian conflict in 2011, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes in the country, targeting Syrian military sites, Iranian objectives, and assets linked to Hezbollah. Recently, Israel has intensified its attacks on points near border crossings between Syria and Lebanon, as tens of thousands have fled from the heavy Israeli bombardments in Lebanon over the past week.
While Israel rarely confirms these strikes, it consistently asserts that it is responding to what it describes as attempts by Iran to solidify its military presence in Syria.
