Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris continued their election campaigns in the “Blue Wall” states of the northeastern U.S., with both making significant stops in Michigan, known as the “Capital of Arab Americans.”
Trump visited his campaign office in Hamtramck, where he was praised by Amer Ghalib, the first Muslim mayor of the city, which is home to approximately 22,000 residents. Trump is actively seeking to win the support of Arab Americans in Michigan, many of whom are frustrated with President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris for their administration’s support of Israel during its ongoing conflict with Gaza and Lebanon.
In a brief statement, Trump said, “Ultimately, we all want one thing: peace in the Middle East, and we will achieve it very quickly with the right leadership in Washington.”
Harris Promotes Peace
Meanwhile, in Oakland County, Michigan, Kamala Harris also reached out to Arab American voters at a campaign rally, promoting the prospects of peace following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
Trump won Michigan in 2016 by a narrow margin of 11,000 votes, but in 2020, Biden flipped the state, defeating Trump by 155,000 votes.
Harris is now working to adjust her campaign strategy to gain the support of more Republicans and men from diverse ethnic backgrounds. She has enlisted the help of popular former First Lady Michelle Obama, who will join her campaign in Michigan on October 26.
With only 16 days left until the election on November 5, polls in key battleground states show a virtual tie between the two candidates.
