Turkey’s Commitment to Support Any Troubled Group in Syria Regardless of Identity
In a significant statement, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan declared Turkey’s commitment to support any group in Syria that feels oppressed or troubled, irrespective of their identity. This announcement came during a joint press conference with his Belgian counterpart, Bernard Quentin, in Ankara, as reported by Anadolu Agency.
Fidan highlighted that millions of Syrians have been displaced due to the oppression by Assad’s regime. He noted that Turkey has welcomed these refugees without hesitation, emphasizing the country’s longstanding humanitarian approach.
“Turkey sees itself as a protector for any group in Syria feeling distressed, be it Alawites, Shiites, Yazidis, Christians, or others,” Fidan stated, underlining Turkey’s inclusive policy towards all persecuted groups.
He further elaborated that the new Syrian administration is sensitive to issues concerning the protection of minorities and oppressed groups. Fidan’s comments reflect a broader policy where Turkey commits to stand by the oppressed and prevent any further issues from arising for them, drawing on the clear principles set by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Fidan also stressed that Turkey’s focus remains on the overall situation in Syria, regardless of the parties involved, aiming to ensure no further problems occur for these groups. His remarks underscore a strategic approach to Syrian affairs, focusing on humanitarian aid and stability rather than political alignment.
