Jordan Announces Start of Liquefied Gas Export to Syria
Jordan has officially started exporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to Syria, marking a significant step
in regional energy cooperation. Hassan Al-Hiyari, CEO of the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company,
announced that Jordan will export 500 tons of LPG daily to Syria for a period of ten days.
This announcement came during a meeting of the Energy Committee of the Lower House, attended by
representatives from the refinery and energy sector experts, focusing on various oil-related energy
issues.
Al-Hiyari stated that this initiative is part of Jordan’s support for Syria, aiming to meet the needs of
facilities dependent on LPG, ensuring their operational continuity under current challenging
circumstances.
This export agreement follows Syrian-Jordanian discussions, which took place during a visit by the
Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Al-Zoubi, to Amman in early January this year. During this visit, he met
with his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, to discuss security and energy matters among other
issues. Both countries proposed the formation of joint committees to handle these concerns.
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi highlighted that these joint committees, focusing on security,
energy, and other areas, would be established in the near future.
