Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is pressing the international community to take steps to avoid an Israeli ground invasion of Gaza.
At a joint news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, el-Sisi said the pair discussed the “many, many civilian casualties” that could result from a ground assault.
El-Sisi highlighted the 6,600 civilian fatalities already reported by Gaza authorities as a result of two weeks of Israeli attacks, “half of whom are children”.
