A recent national poll by Quinnipiac University indicates that the proportion of American voters deeming President Joe Biden too old for another four-year term has doubled over a year.
A recent national poll of registered voters conducted by Quinnipiac University revealed that the proportion of American voters who consider President Joe Biden too old to serve another four-year term in the White House has now doubled compared to a year ago, reaching two-thirds.
The organization reported on Wednesday that “Voters 67% – 31% think that President Joe Biden is too old to effectively serve another 4-year term as president, compared to 68 – 28% in Quinnipiac University’s September 2023 poll.”
In contrast, as per Quinnipiac, voters currently hold the belief by a margin of 57% to 41% that former President Donald Trump is not too old to effectively serve another four-year term in the White House. This signifies a shift from the previous poll conducted in September, where the margin stood at 63% to 34%.
“Voters were asked whether Biden and Trump have the physical fitness and the mental fitness to serve a second presidential term. Physical fitness: Biden: 35% say yes, 62% say no; Trump: 60% say yes, 37% say no. Mental fitness: Biden: 34% say yes, 64% say no; Trump: 48% say yes, 51% say no,” Quinnipiac said.
Nevertheless, in a hypothetical 2024 general election presidential matchup, Biden maintains a slight lead over Trump, with 49% of registered voters supporting Biden compared to 45% for Trump, as found by the pollsters.
Earlier this month, a Gallup survey found that fewer than 40% of American voters feel US President Joe Biden deserves to be reelected. His public favor rating has been below 50% since August 2021, raising concerns among his fellow Democrats as he prepares for a rematch with Republican former President Donald Trump in November.
The poll indicated that “The 38% of voters who say Biden deserves a second term is slightly lower than the 41% of Americans who approve of the job he is doing in the same survey.”
The large majority of Democrats (82%) believed Biden should be reelected to the president, as do 29% of independents and 3% of Republicans.
