The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Saturday that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli war on the territory, now lasting for 11 months, has reached at least 41,182.
The ministry’s statement reported that 64 people were killed in the last 48 hours alone. The total number of injured has also surged to 95,280 since the war began on October 7.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian News Agency reported on Saturday that five people were killed, and others injured, in an Israeli airstrike near a school sheltering displaced individuals in northwest Gaza City.
Local sources confirmed that five Palestinians lost their lives, and several others sustained serious injuries when Israeli jets bombed the “Ard al-Shanti” area near Dar al-Arqam School, northwest of Gaza City.
Israeli aircraft also targeted a fuel filling facility in the west of the city and repeatedly struck areas near an UNRWA clinic and Abu Jala Street in al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza.
All efforts to end the war, now nearing its first year, have stalled, with Israel and Hamas blaming each other for the failure of negotiations mediated by the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar.
The conflict has caused widespread destruction and displaced around 90% of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents, many of whom have been forced to flee multiple times.
