Kremlin Comments on Biden’s Alleged Permission for Deep Strikes into Russia
In a significant geopolitical development, the Kremlin has responded to reports suggesting that U.S. President Joe Biden has permitted Ukraine to target deep Russian territory with American-supplied missiles. Dmitry Peskov, the Russian presidential spokesperson, addressed these allegations by stating that the outgoing U.S. administration seems intent on escalating tensions in Ukraine.
Peskov, in response to inquiries from journalists about any confirmation from the Kremlin regarding Biden’s decision, noted, “As you know, this matter is only published in Western media so far, but it’s clear that the administration in Washington is taking steps to continue stoking the fire and provoking further escalation around this conflict.”
He further elaborated
“If this decision has indeed been made and conveyed to the Kyiv regime, it would naturally signify a new qualitative wave of tension, moving the situation into a new phase from the perspective of U.S. involvement in this conflict.”
The Russian stance on this issue, according to Peskov, has been made unmistakably clear by President Vladimir Putin previously. He mentioned, “President Vladimir Putin has articulated Russia’s position on decisions regarding strikes with long-range weapons on its territory very clearly and unambiguously. The collective West has received these signals.”
Earlier, the French newspaper Le Figaro published an article commenting on Biden’s reported
decision allowing Ukraine to strike Russian territory with tactical ballistic missiles like ATACMS. It also mentioned that France and the UK had similarly allowed the use of SCALP and Storm
Shadow missiles for such purposes. However, Le Figaro later removed this confirmation from their online article without explanation. To date, neither the U.S., French, nor British authorities
have officially confirmed the information published by The New York Times and Le Figaro
regarding the authorization of missile strikes into Russian territory.
President Putin had previously warned that NATO countries are not just discussing the possibility
of using Ukrainian forces for long-range strikes against Russia but are also contemplating direct
involvement in the conflict in Ukraine. He emphasized that the use of high-precision, long-range
Western weapons implies military participation by NATO countries, as they are the only entities
capable of managing such missile systems. Putin stressed that direct Western involvement in the
conflict would significantly alter its nature, signaling that NATO nations would be in a formal state of war with Russia.
