US State Department Official: Continued Partnership with SDF and Monitoring New Syrian Administration
On Wednesday, Nicholas Granger, Director of the Syria Regional Platform at the U.S. Department of State, stated that the United States “continues its partnership with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).” He also emphasized that they are closely monitoring the new Syrian administration and are in contact with a broad range of Syrians across the country.
In an interview with Rudaw TV, Granger stressed the importance of the SDF and the interim authorities engaging in serious dialogue regarding the future shape of Syria.

Granger added that:
“The United States is proud to support the Syrian people in their efforts to build a unified, free, stable, prosperous, and independent state that reflects the will of all Syrians and respects the rights of all Syrians.”
The U.S. State Department official highlighted the critical importance of providing governmental and essential services, as well as operating government institutions within Syria during this pivotal time.
When asked about the potential delisting of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its leader from the terrorist list, Granger responded, “Any decision regarding this classification will be dealt with through a separate process.”
He further clarified that they believe all Syrians, be they Kurds or Arabs, regardless of identity, have a role to play in the political and social life of Syria, after over 50 years under Assad’s brutal regime and more than a decade of conflict.
Granger concluded, “I want to make clear that we are communicating with the interim authorities and a wide array of Syrians from all parts of the country to support a Syrian-led political transition that is inclusive, non-sectarian, and represents all Syrians, men and women from all parts of Syria’s diverse social fabric.”
He also noted, “We are vigilantly observing the steps taken by the new Syrian administration, and we continue to clarify this in our communications with them, expecting them to follow through not just in words but in actions.”
