Cross-border remittances continued to play an important role in Africa’s economy
Access Bank Group, in partnership with MasterCard has launched an innovative solution to expand access to cross-border payments and remittances to and from the continent, bringing Africa closer to the global economy.With this solutions businesses and consumers can send and receive international payments to and from over 150 countries across the globe.By leveraging the network and treasury capabilities of Mastercard Move, Access Bank, through its cutting-edge Access Africa platform, shall empower individuals and businesses to enjoy instant, traceable, seamless, and cost-effective international transactions.
In her opening remark at the launch of the collaboration on Wednesday, Chioma Okoli, Deputy Managing Director at Access Bank Plc, noted that the collaboration with Mastercard reinforced the embodiments of the Access Bank’s commitment towards innovation and ensuring the delivery of excellent service to her customers.“Our partnership is targeted towards ensuring we give our customers the required service delivery. At Access Bank, we will continue to look for partnerships that will support us in delivering our dreams and goals,” she said.Robert Giles, Senior Advisory, Retail Banking, Access Bank, also added that the bank was thrilled to collaborate with Mastercard to advance financial inclusion in Africa through the Access Africa initiative.

Cross-border remittances continued to play an important role in Africa’s economy, with flows to Sub-Saharan Africa increasing by approximately 1.9 percent in 2023 to $54 billion as a result of strong remittance growth in Mozambique, Rwanda and Ethiopia, with Nigeria accounting for 38 percent t of the remittance flows.
