In the latest escalation of violence, 33 people were killed and more than 70 injured in an Israeli airstrike that targeted homes at the Nasar intersection in Jabalia refugee camp, late Friday night. According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, among the victims are 21 women.
The airstrikes also claimed 30 lives in Tel Al-Zaatar, northern Gaza, including 20 children and women. In addition, two people were killed, and several others were injured when an Israeli strike hit a home in Al-Maghazi camp in central Gaza.
Bodies in the Streets
The situation in Gaza’s healthcare system is catastrophic. Dr. Director of Al-Awda Hospital told Al Jazeera that due to a severe shortage of medical supplies, the sector is on the brink of collapse. “The northern part of Gaza is beyond description,” he added, warning that the number of casualties is expected to rise in the coming hours as medical facilities struggle to cope with the influx of injured civilians.
Early Saturday, reports emerged that Israeli artillery shelling had struck the upper floors of Al-Awda Hospital in Tel Al-Zaatar, further straining the region’s medical infrastructure.
Civilians Dying from Hunger and Thirst
A Gaza Health Ministry official informed Al Jazeera that several civilians in Jabalia had died from hunger and thirst, trapped in their homes due to the ongoing blockade. In addition to those who perished, dozens of bodies lie in the streets as Israeli bombardments continue.
The death toll from Israeli airstrikes on Gaza since early Friday has now reached 64, with 45 of those casualties occurring in the Jabalia refugee camp. Medical teams at Kamal Adwan and Al-Awda Hospitals are overwhelmed and unable to manage the large number of injuries caused by the Israeli strikes.
