Russian Welcome for Trump’s Desire to Prevent World War III
In a notable gesture before his inauguration as the President of the United States, Donald Trump received commendations from Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin expressed his welcome for Trump’s inclination to engage in direct dialogue with Russia and his commitment to avoiding a third world war.
“Trump’s desire to establish direct communications with Russia and prevent a third world war is something we welcome,” Putin stated. “We always want peace in Ukraine.”
Concurrently, the Kremlin announced that Putin had informed the Russian Security Council of Moscow’s openness to dialogue with the new U.S. administration. Earlier, Trump had publicly declared his preparation for a meeting with Putin aimed at “ending” the war in Ukraine.
Trump’s return has rekindled hopes for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which began in February 2022. However, this development also raises concerns in Kyiv about the potential costs of a quick peace deal, fearing that an expedited agreement might come at a significant expense to Ukraine.
