UNRWA: West Bank Turns into Battlefield After Gaza
On Wednesday, Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stated that the occupied West Bank has transformed into a “battlefield.” This comes as more than 50 people, including children, have been killed since January amid a large-scale military operation launched by the Israeli army.
In a post on X, Lazzarini wrote, “The West Bank is turning into a battlefield,” highlighting that “over 50 people, including children, have reportedly been killed since the Israeli forces’ operation began.” He emphasized that “this must stop.”

The Israeli military initiated a broad operation in the northern West Bank over a month ago, following the implementation of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Lazzarini described the situation as “an alarming extension of the war in Gaza” spilling into the West Bank.
The UNRWA chief
Whose organization recently faced a ban on its activities by the Israeli Knesset, added that “the destruction of public infrastructure, road bulldozing, and restricted access have become common practices” in the region.
Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967 and frequently conducts military operations there, claiming they target members of armed Palestinian factions. However, the current operation stands out as one of the largest and longest in nearly two decades.
The escalating West Bank conflict has raised concerns about the region’s stability, with UNRWA calling for an end to the violence and destruction.
