Bilal Erdoğan Visits Umayyad Mosque in Damascus
Local media revealed that Bilal Erdoğan, son of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, visited the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus on Friday, accompanied by the Governor of Damascus. Reports highlighted that the visit included the tomb of the Muslim commander of Turkish origin, Saladin (Salahuddin Ayyubi), located in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The visit is part of an official tour aimed at reviving historical memory and strengthening cultural ties between Ankara and the region. Bilal Erdoğan was joined by a Turkish delegation, including Mustafa Varank, a former minister, and several other officials.
Notably, the son of the Turkish president had previously accompanied Ahmad al-Sharaa, the head of the transitional phase, on a tour inside the Umayyad Mosque and some of Damascus’s old neighborhoods.
This visit underscores the ongoing efforts to deepen historical and cultural connections, reflecting the shared heritage between Turkey and Syria.
