The US senator has released a statement calling on the US to restore funding to UN’s Palestinian relief agency, after it paused the funding last week amid Israeli allegations that some of its staff participated in Hamas’s October 7 attacks on Israel. “Obviously, it’s not acceptable for any of the 13,000 UNRWA employees in Gaza to be involved with Hamas, and the allegations against the 12 people charged must be investigated. Sweden ’s International Development Cooperation Agency will pause the humanitarian funds that would have been paid to the UNRWA. Johan Forssell, the minister for international development cooperation and foreign trade, is quoted in various Swedish media outlets as saying that the money will instead go to other humanitarian organisations which operate in the occupied Palestinian territories and Lebanon. The Syrian al-Watan newspaper reveals that the first ambassador from the UAE since 2011 has arrived in Syria. Emirati ambassador Hassan Ahmed al-Shahi arrived in Syria on Monday evening to become the first ambassador of his country to Syria since 2011. According to the Syrian newspaper al-Watan, al-Shahi will head the Emirati diplomatic mission after nearly 13 years without an ambassador from the Gulf state there since the start of the war on Syria. A woman was killed and others were injured today in the ongoing Israeli targeting of the vicinity of Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). The occupation’s armored tanks shelled areas near the Al-Amal hospital and the PRCS headquarters in Khan Yunis, where thousands of displaced persons sought refuge, killing a woman and injuring nine others, reported the Society.
