RAMALLAH, Saturday, October 28, 2023 (WAFA) — President Mahmoud Abbas chaired this evening a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
The meeting reviewed the extensive regional and international efforts to stop the Israeli aggression and war crimes against the Palestinian people.
The PLO Executive Committee expressed its appreciation for the unified stance of the Palestinian people in the face of aggression, as well as the Arab and international solidarity campaigns with the Palestinian people, calling for an expansion of these efforts and the preservation of national unity.
The Committee emphasized that the essence of the conflict being deepened by the Israeli government and its partners is the occupation, settlement construction and expansion, and the Israeli blockade of Gaza.
The Committee pointed out that the basis for achieving security and peace is the implementation of relevant United Nations resolutions and the realization of the rights of the Palestinian people to freedom and independence.
The PLO Executive Committee discussed the ongoing campaign of genocide and daily massacres carried out by the Israeli occupation, affecting all Palestinian territories, including Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem.
It also discussed the destruction of homes, institutions, and towers, as well as the targeting of mosques, churches, and hospitals.
The Committee underscored President Mahmoud Abbas’s efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire that ends the Israeli genocide campaignand aggression. They also called for an emergency Arab summit to intensify regional and international efforts to halt the aggression.
The PLO Executive Committee firmly rejected the forced displacement of the Palestinian people, whether in Gaza, the West Bank, Jerusalem, or elsewhere.
It highlighted that such displacement, promoted by the Israeli occupation, aims to create a new Nakba for the Palestinian people, who shall remain steadfast on their land and continue the struggle for freedom and independence.
The Committee also warned against attempts to discuss partial solutions or undermine the political representation of the PLO, the legitimate and sole representative of the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom, independence, and the realization of all their rights.
On top of these rights are the right of return, self-determination, and the establishment of a fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The PLO Executive Committee expressed its gratitude to all the global public demonstrations demanding the cessation of the Israeli aggression and the campaign of genocide.
It also condemned the partnership between the U.S. administration and certain capitals that support the Israeli occupation and whitewash its crimes and aggression.
The Committee extended its gratitude to the countries that voted in favor of halting the Israeli aggression and providing essential humanitarian aid, including medical supplies, food, water, and basic necessities, to the Palestinian people in Gaza.
In conclusion, the Executive Committee reaffirmed its top priorities, which include:
– Immediate cessation of aggression and the implementation of a ceasefire under international and regional auspices, in coordination with the PLO.
– Lifting the blockade and opening corridors for the entry of food, medical supplies, electricity, water, and fuel, ensuring the basic necessities of life.
– Halting the policy of forced displacement of Palestinian people inside and outside of Gaza.
