On Friday, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Israel is reconsidering its strategy of attacking Iran’s oil facilities. This comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to participate in a limited defense consultation at the Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv on Saturday.
U.S. President Joe Biden has urged Israel not to target Iranian oil facilities in retaliation for a missile strike carried out by Tehran against Israel earlier this week. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Biden said, “If I were them, I’d be thinking of alternatives to striking oil fields,” following his remarks about ongoing discussions regarding potential Israeli strikes.
Biden also confirmed that the United States is considering imposing sanctions on Iran. His comments came at a time when Israel has been conducting airstrikes in various parts of Lebanon, particularly in southern Beirut, and is contemplating its response to the Iranian missile attack.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, addressed a large crowd in Tehran on Friday, stating that Iran and its allies in the region will not back down from confronting Israel. Khamenei emphasized that Iran’s missile strike on Israel was both legal and justified, adding that Iran “will neither delay nor rush in fulfilling its duties against Israel.”
Israel has also been conducting ground operations in southern Lebanon following two weeks of intense airstrikes. Hezbollah claims to be resisting these operations with ambushes, missiles, and direct confrontations.
