Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant hinted at the possibility of striking Iran’s nuclear facilities, stating that Israel’s response to recent Iranian missile attacks “will be independent.”
In an interview with CNN, Gallant emphasized Israel’s close coordination with the United States as it prepares to respond to Iran but noted that Israel “will make its own independent decisions” on how to act. The Middle East is closely watching potential Israeli strikes in retaliation for Iran’s recent missile attack on Israel.
While the U.S. has expressed opposition to striking Iran’s nuclear sites, Gallant made it clear that Israel “has not ruled out any options.” He also highlighted Israel’s capability to strike both “near and far targets,” affirming that the nation is ready to respond to Iran appropriately. “We will not stand idle, and neither should the international community,” Gallant stated.
Gallant is set to meet with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Wednesday to discuss threats from Iran and its proxies. He also met with U.S. Central Command head Michael Erik Kurilla to plan Israel’s response against Iran.
Gallant discussed Israel’s ongoing campaign against Hezbollah, claiming significant progress. “We have dismantled a large part of Hezbollah’s capabilities,” he said, pointing to the leadership void created after the killing of key figures, including Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Gallant confirmed that Israel’s ground operations in southern Lebanon remain focused on Hezbollah positions close to the border, even as the offensive escalates. He added that Israel’s strikes have “opened the door for change not only in Lebanon but throughout the Middle East.”
