Egypt Achieves Historic High in Foreign Tourist Arrivals in 2024
Egypt has set a new record for the influx of foreign tourists in 2024, having welcomed 15.7 million visitors. The Egyptian Cabinet’s Media Center celebrated this achievement, noting on its official Facebook page that “Egyptian tourism has achieved a historic record despite the geopolitical conditions in the region.”
The statement highlighted that these tourists came from various tourist markets around the world.
Yesterday, Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sharif Fathi stated that this unprecedented number was achieved “thanks to the security, safety, and support provided by the Egyptian state to the tourism and antiquities sectors,” alongside efforts from civil society institutions, represented by the Egyptian Federation of Tourist Chambers.
The Egyptian Minister stressed the need for new hotel rooms distributed across different tourist destinations, mentioning recent financial initiatives by the state, including a 50 billion Egyptian pound support package for the tourism sector, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank.
Fathi noted that these new projects will add 40,000 new hotel rooms to the existing hotel capacity
throughout the republic, following applications from numerous companies to benefit from the
initiative for expansion, completion of unfinished projects, and renovations.
He also mentioned that work is underway on launching other initiatives for building new hotels in
the upcoming period.
