Elon Musk Comments on Los Angeles Fires, Criticizes California’s Governance
American entrepreneur Elon Musk endorsed a user’s opinion on the social media platform X, which labeled California’s government as the worst in the U.S. amid the deadly fires raging in Los Angeles.
A user on X posted about the wave of fires hitting the state, stating, “California has the worst
government among all U.S. states, and the ‘failed water and forest management policies’ adopted
by Governor Gavin Newsom have contributed to these devastating fires.” Musk responded to this
critique of state governance with a one-word affirmation: “True.”
According to ABC News, citing data from AccuWeather, the forest fires in Los Angeles have caused damages estimated between $52 and $57 billion. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that the death toll from these wildfires has now reached five individuals.
Four major fires continue to burn in California, with the Palisades Fire being the most destructive,
having destroyed around 1,000 structures and spreading over more than 2,000 hectares.
Firefighters have not yet managed to contain this blaze.
Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued by Los Angeles County for tens of thousands of
residents. The County Fire Chief acknowledged that resources are prepared to handle one or two
major fires, not four simultaneously.
