Liverpool Triumphs as Salah Bolsters His Premier League Legacy
Liverpool has strengthened its grip on the Premier League title with a convincing 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town at Anfield on Saturday in matchday 23 of the competition.
Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, and Cody Gakpo (with two goals) scored for Liverpool in the 11th, 35th, 44th, and 66th minutes respectively. Ipswich Town managed a consolation goal through Jacob Greaves in the 90th minute.
The win takes Liverpool’s points tally to 53, extending their lead at the top with a game in hand, while Ipswich Town remains stuck at 16 points in 18th place, suffering their third consecutive loss and their 13th defeat of the season.

On Anfield’s pitch, Liverpool quickly took control, scoring thrice in the first half. Dutch striker Cody Gakpo played a pivotal role, scoring twice and assisting one.
The scoring was opened by Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai in the 11th minute with a fine left-footed shot from the edge of the box, following a long pass from French teammate Ibrahima Konaté.
Salah then doubled the lead, capitalizing on a pass from Gakpo, making it his 19th goal of the season in the league, further cementing his position as the Premier League’s leading scorer this campaign.
Salah also celebrated his 176th Premier League goal, making him the seventh-highest scorer in the competition’s history, surpassing French legend Thierry Henry who scored 175 goals for Arsenal.

Furthermore
Salah has now become the second-highest foreign goal scorer in the Premier League, only behind Sergio Agüero’s 184 goals for Manchester City, and he also marked his 100th goal at Anfield in the league.
Amidst Salah’s record-breaking spree, Gakpo added a third goal just before halftime, finishing off a rebound from Szoboszlai’s shot.
Liverpool then secured their dominance with a fourth goal when Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a cross from the right, which Gakpo powerfully headed in, securing his brace and his eighth league goal of the season.
This victory has widened Liverpool’s lead at the top, taking advantage of Nottingham Forest’s heavy 5-0 defeat away to Bournemouth on the same day.
Arsenal secured second place with a 1-0 away win against Wolverhampton, bringing their total to 47 points.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United entered the top four with a 3-1 victory over Southampton, moving to 41 points, whereas Southampton stayed at the bottom with just 6 points in 20th place.
Further down the table, Everton, under David Moyes, continued their revival with a 1-0 win at Brighton, thanks to Iliman Ndiaye’s penalty in the 42nd minute, lifting Everton to 23 points in 16th place, while Brighton’s unbeaten run ended at six games, leaving them with 34 points in 9th.
