President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed today the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, where they discussed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.
During the meeting, President Abbas urged the European Union to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation authorities to stop their continuous aggression against the Palestinian people. Additionally, he urged the acceleration of humanitarian aid delivery into Gaza and demanded an end to the assaults by Israeli occupation forces and settler terrorists against Palestinians in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
President Abbas reiterated his unequivocal rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank, including Jerusalem. He also underscored the urgent need for international intervention to release Palestinian clearance funds currently withheld by Israel.
The President emphasized that there is no security or military solution for Gaza, highlighting that Gaza is an integral part of the State of Palestine. He rejected any acceptance or engagement with Israel’s plans to separate Gaza from the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.
Furthermore, President Abbas asserted that security and peace can only be achieved by ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land, including East Jerusalem. He called on the European Union and its member states, who support the two-state solution based on international legitimacy, to recognize the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital and grant it full membership in the United Nations.
He highly appreciated the humanitarian and developmental aid provided by the European Union to build Palestinian state institutions and support the Palestinian people.
