Speaking from Greece during a stop on his latest trip to the region, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that Israel does not want escalation along its border with Lebanon, but must act to defend itself.
“We want to do everything possible to make sure that we don’t see escalation there,” Blinken said of the border between Israel and Lebanon. “But it’s very important that Israelis have security in the north. Tens of thousands of people have been forced from their homes in northern Israel because of the threat posed by Hezbollah.”
“Israel clearly does not want escalation, that’s been made clear from the start. But they also have to be fully prepared to defend themselves and defend the rights of their people to live in their own country, in their own homes,” he added.
