The men’s World Cup trophy grins at Yunus Musah every time the buoyant American teenager whips out his phone. He made it his screensaver some two years ago, around the time he debuted for the U.S. men’s national team at age 17. He kept it there, as daily motivation, as he turned 18 and 19, and as the real thing came into focus. He became a USMNT regular; they qualified for the World Cup; “and now that we are qualified, you’re just kind of waiting,” Musah said in August. Waiting, beaming and dreaming. But in the meantime, on Spain’s sunny southeastern coast, at Valencia, the La Liga club he…

NEW YORK — New coach, same result in a New York basketball rivalry that’s become no rivalry at all. Kevin Durant had 29 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists, becoming the first player since Michael Jordan to score at least 25 points in his team’s first 12 games, and the Brooklyn Nets routed the Knicks 112-85 on Wednesday night after making Jacque Vaughn their head coach. It was the second romp in the last four games for a Nets team that has responded so well to Vaughn that it decided not to pursue suspended Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka. “We don’t want this to be…

Travis Boyd and Jack McBain scored in the third period as the Coyotes won their third straight to begin an NHL record-tying 14-game road trip. “You’re seeing a team right now that’s willing to go to battle for each other, willing to play the right way for 60 minutes,” Boyd said. “Some people might be shocked by it, but we’ve got a lot of belief and we’ve got a lot of pride in our room.…

In the early months of the pandemic, Facebook only grew bigger and more central to our lives. With lockdowns spreading, countless people began shopping, socializing and working on Facebook and other online platforms. As CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in March 2020, usage was so high that the company was “just trying to keep the lights on.” Against that backdrop, Zuckerberg’s company went on a remarkable hiring spree. Facebook, which later rebranded as Meta, went from 48,268 staffers in March 2020 to more than 87,000 as of September of this year. In other words, it hired another Facebook’s worth of staff. And it looked like…

The scientific team from Saratov State University (SSU), has determined during their study the optimal parameters for the synthesis of magnetically controlled capsules to maximize their capture and control. The results of their work were published in the Molecules journal. Remote control of magnetically sensitive objects – capsules – using an external magnetic field source, is a promising approach to targeted drug delivery, said scientists at Saratov State University. Targeted delivery is one of the main methods of reducing the side effects in drug therapy, where the active ingredient accumulates directly at the site required for treatment. Magnetically controlled capsules can…

About a hundred petroglyphs have been discovered south of Enköping in Uppsala County north of Stockholm. Despite this area ranking as one of Sweden’s most petroglyph-dense, the rock carvings are unusually numerous and deep and contain, among other things, about 60 ships, which seems somewhat unusual for a landlocked town. In total, there are about 100 figures carved on an arable hill south of the town of Enköping, making the find the largest in about a century. The carvings are around 3,000 years old and were carved at a time when the sea water reached here. This explains the large…
