The Palestinian Red Crescent says its Gaza staff are reeling from the “immense” physical toll of working consistently for 18 days and the emotional strain of caring for victims – but also fighting to stay alive themselves.
“Medics are under shock, not just from what they see but also because their own lives are in danger,” spokeswoman Nebal Farsakh told Al Jazeera.
“A large number of paramedics have lost family members, or have had family members flee, while some don’t have homes to go back to.”
Four medics were killed in the first five days after the October 7 Hamas attack. “One of our team lost his father, who was also a medic, and he is working non-stop despite it,” Farsakh said.
