US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says there must be a clear outline for managing Gaza in the aftermath of Israel’s war.
Speaking at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, Blinken said the war “cannot and must not end with a vacuum in Gaza”. This scenario would lead to three outcomes the US won’t accept, namely an Israeli occupation, the return of Hamas to power, or “chaos”.
Speaking of the tensions between Israel and its northern neighbour, Lebanon, the secretary of state said the US is focusing its efforts on avoiding a full-blown conflict.
He added fighting between Israel and Lebanon underscored the importance of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza.
