Egypt Bans Entry of Palestinians from Syria and Four Other Arab Countries
Recent reports have unveiled a decision by Egyptian authorities to prohibit Palestinians from entering Egypt if they are coming from Syria and four other Arab nations: Sudan, Libya, Iraq, and Yemen.
This ban extends indefinitely, as per sources speaking to “Al Arabiya.net” and “Al Hadath.net”, marking a significant shift in Egypt’s immigration policy.
Just days prior, similar measures were enacted against Syrians holding European, American, or Canadian residency permits, who are now required to obtain security clearance before entering Egypt.
Further details reveal that the decision also includes halting entry for Syrian nationals with Schengen visas and even those married to Egyptians, unless they have obtained specific security approval.
This comes in contrast to earlier statements from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, which had expressed Egypt’s support for Syrian sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, alongside advocating for regional and international coordination to aid Syria.
Moreover, Egypt had reaffirmed its support for the Syrian people’s efforts to rebuild their nation and institutions through a comprehensive political process led by Syrians, ensuring the rights of all components of Syrian society.
This new policy, however, represents a stricter approach to immigration from these conflict-torn regions, potentially due to security concerns or logistical challenges in managing influxes of migrants.
