Anticipated Meeting Between US Secretary of State and European Counterparts in Rome Regarding Syria
The U.S. Department of State issued a statement announcing that Secretary of State Antony Blinken intends to travel to Rome, Italy, next Thursday for a meeting with European foreign ministers to discuss the situation in Syria.
The statement further noted that Blinken will discuss with his European counterparts, whose identities were not disclosed, support for a peaceful and inclusive political transition led and owned by the Syrian people.
Earlier, the U.S. Secretary of State emphasized his country’s support for a Syrian-led political process that leads to the formation of an inclusive civil government, adding that the new government must respect the rights of women, minorities, and sacred places, in his words.
It is worth mentioning that French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, along with his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock, visited Syria last Friday to meet with the new administration’s leadership, part of the diplomatic movement seen in post-war Syria.

Western powers have expressed hopes for greater stability in Syria, especially following the significant refugee crisis whose repercussions reached Europe throughout the war waged by the now-defunct regime against the Syrian people.
Notably, the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Monday evening the easing of restrictions on humanitarian aid to Syria, accelerating the delivery of essential supplies without lifting sanctions that prevent additional aid from reaching the transitional Syrian government.
