MOSCOW, December 29. /TASS/. Israel plans relocating a significant number of Palestinian nationals from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and the initial figure stands at least at 100,000 people, in informed source told TASS on Friday.
“According to our information, the government of Israel plans to relocate to Egypt a significant number of Palestinian nationals residing in the Gaza Strip under a cited pretext of their safety during the [Israeli] military operation’s active phase and the following post-conflict restoration of the enclave,” the source said.
“The first stage of this plan implies a possible relocation of at least 100,000 people to the territory of the neighboring country. This scenario implies relocation of more people from the Gaza Strip in the future,” the source said adding that the Israeli government was “obviously not interested” in their later return home.
The source also said that the United States may possibly serve as a sponsor for maintaining Palestinian nationals’ refugee camps in Egypt and that Washington had allegedly offered Cairo finances in case Egypt accepted the deal.
“Washington is likely to be involved in order to secure the consent of Cairo, which strongly opposes this scenario,” the source continued.
“In exchange for the Egypt’s consent the Americans allegedly vowed to finance the construction and further maintenance of refugee camps as well as to offer Egypt a considerable financial aid package, which is a strong argument considering the country’s current financial difficulties,” the source added.
Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 after militants of the Gaza Strip-based radical Palestinian movement Hamas launched a surprise incursion into Israeli territory, killing many Israeli kibbutz residents living near the Gaza border and abducting more than 200 Israelis, including women, children and the elderly.
Hamas described its attack as a response to the Israeli authorities’ aggressive actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City.
Israel has declared a complete siege of the Gaza Strip and started a military operation there. Israel is also striking parts of Lebanon and Syria in retaliation for attacks originating from those countries. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
