U.S. Aid to Kurdish Forces in Syria and Iraq During 2024
The third quarterly report of the U.S. Department of Defense for the year 2024 revealed that the United States provided over $57 million in aid to Kurdish forces in Iraq and Syria.
The U.S.-led coalition published a report detailing the financial and logistical support given to Kurdish forces in Iraq and Syria, which amounted to more than $57 million during the third quarter of 2024.
According to “Middle East News”, during this period, the United States allocated $14.3 million to its allied forces in Syria, with $7.4 million going to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Other Kurdish units known as “Counter-Terrorism Forces”, “Commandos”, and “Asayish” received $700,000, $900,000, and $1 million respectively.
The remainder of the U.S. financial aid was designated for other groups allied with the United States in Syria.
“Kurd Press” reported that in the last quarter of 2024, the U.S. disbursed approximately $30
million to cover expenses for the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq,
plus an additional $2.7 million for food supplies and fuel for the Peshmerga Ministry.
Washington also provided $2.9 million in financial aid to the special forces affiliated with the
Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in Iraq.
Moreover, the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq received an
additional $4.7 million to cover various miscellaneous expenses. The rest of the U.S. financial aid was allocated to other military forces under the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.
