Erdogan Criticizes Biden’s Decision on Ukraine
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed opposition to Washington’s decision to
allow Kyiv to target deep within Russian territory with American missiles, describing it as
incorrect and likely to escalate tensions.
This statement was made by Erdogan on an airplane returning from the G20 Summit in Brazil, in response to a journalist’s question about the implications of the U.S. administration’s decision.
Erdogan stated:
“First and foremost, we do not consider this decision correct, nor do we approve of it. From the very beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war, we believed it would not end with more weapons,
blood, and tears, but with more peace efforts, goodwill, and diplomacy.
Now, Mr. Biden has taken a step that can be interpreted as an attempt to fuel the war to ensure it never ends or even to expand it.”
He continued, “Biden’s move will not only escalate the conflict but will also provoke a stronger response from Russia.”
He pointed out that Russian President Vladimir Putin has recently approved a nuclear policy allowing his country to respond with nuclear weapons in the event of a ballistic missile attack, and the Turkish leader added, “All of this could bring the region and the world to the brink of a major new war.”
