Aoun to Iranian Delegation: We’re Tired of Others’ Wars on Lebanese Soil
On Sunday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun told an official Iranian delegation that “Lebanon is tired of others fighting their wars on its soil.” The statement came during a meeting at Baabda Palace, where Aoun hosted Iran’s Shura Council Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, and Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani, along with their accompanying delegation. Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Ragi was also present.
A Call for Non-Interference
Addressing the Iranian delegation, Aoun said, “I agree with you that states should not interfere in the internal affairs of others. The best response to any loss or aggression is the unity of the Lebanese people.”
Aoun emphasized Lebanon’s desire to maintain “the best possible relations with Tehran, in the interest of both countries and their peoples.” He noted that Lebanon has paid a heavy price for supporting the Palestinian cause, expressing hope for a just resolution.

Support for Two-State Solution
The president highlighted the outcomes of the recent Riyadh Summit, attended by Iran, particularly its endorsement of a “two-state solution for the Palestinian issue, with the Palestinian Authority as the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.”
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Iranian delegation’s attendance at the funeral of Hezbollah’s late Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, adding a layer of significance to the talks.
Iran’s Stance on Lebanese Sovereignty
Qalibaf, in response, stressed Iran’s commitment to “Lebanon’s territorial unity, safety, and state sovereignty.” He added that “Iran supports any decision Lebanon makes independently, free from external interference.”
A Step Toward Stability?
As Lebanon navigates its complex political landscape, Aoun’s remarks signal a desire for autonomy and peace.
