Speaking at the UNSC, Russia’s envoy laments the civilian losses in Gaza, calling the Israeli strikes a flagrant violation of international law. Russia views the Israeli strikes on civilian targets in the Gaza Strip as shocking violations of international law, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia said. “We are shocked and deeply outraged that the targets of the strikes are civilian objects,” Nebenzia said during a UN Security Council meeting on Friday. “We emphasize that the deliberate strikes against civilian objects represent an egregious violation of international humanitarian law.” Nebezia further added that there are no safe zones…
The Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations demands that “Israel” allow the flow of livelihood supplies to the Gaza Strip. During a recent UN Security Council meeting, China’s representative Zhang Jun urged “Israel” to immediately lift the Gaza blockade and ensure the unrestricted flow of essential supplies to the region, particularly fuel to humanitarian and medical facilities. “We call on Israel to immediately lift the blockade and completely remove restrictions on livelihoods supplies, especially fuel deliveries to humanitarian and medical institutions and livelihood facilities,” Zhang said during a meeting of the UN Security Council on Friday. Zhang…
Tedros Ghebreyesus was among those briefing the Security Council earlier, saying the “situation on the ground is impossible to describe”. “Hospital corridors crammed with the injured, the sick, the dying; morgues overflowing; surgery without anaesthesia; tens of thousands of displaced people sheltering at hospitals; families crammed into overcrowded schools, desperate for food and water,” Ghebreyesus told diplomats. He added that WHO health workers on the ground were “physically and mentally exhausted”, and said that half of the Gaza Strip’s 36 hospitals and two-thirds of primary healthcare centres were not functioning. “Those that are functioning are operating way beyond their capacities.…
Israeli troops encircle four hospitals as Gaza’s largest medical complex, Al-Shifa, faces complete collapse. Battles have intensified around several hospitals in northern Gaza, with some receiving direct hits and reports of casualties among patients and tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians sheltering at the facilities, as Israeli troops continue their advance. Gaza’s Ministry of Health said on Friday that Israeli tanks have been closing in on at least four hospitals from all directions. The head of Al-Shifa Hospital, Muhammad Abu Salmiya, told Al Jazeera, “This day was a day of war on hospitals.” “The sick and wounded occupy all of…
Israel says more than 100,000 Palestinians have moved from the north to the south of Gaza in the last two days. Tens of thousands of Palestinians have fled northern Gaza on foot as Israeli forces push deeper into dense urban neighbourhoods and attack hospitals where residents have been sheltering. Gaza City has been the focus of Israel’s ground offensive, with fierce battles and air raids reported on Friday in densely populated areas. A spokesperson for the Israeli army said on Friday more than 100,000 Palestinians have moved from the north to the south of Gaza in the last two days. A never-ending…
Israeli officials say the original death toll of 1,400 included unidentified corpses now believed to be Hamas fighters. Israel has revised downwards the death toll from an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on October 7, to approximately 1,200 people against a previous government estimate of 1,400. “Around 1,200 is the official number of victims of the October 7 massacre,” spokesperson Lior Haiat of Israel’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday in a written statement, according to the Reuters news agency. The figure had been updated on Thursday, he said. According to Haiat, the number was revised since unidentified corpses previously included…
Thousands of people are holed up in Gaza’s largest hospital, which Israel claims is a Hamas command centre. Israel’s military has closed in on the front gates of Gaza’s biggest hospital, where thousands of injured and displaced people are trapped amid intensive Israeli bombardment. Israeli forces had fully encircled the al-Shifa Hospital as of early on Saturday morning, preventing ambulances from entering or leaving the facility, where medical supplies and food are running low. “They are attacking and destroying the front gates of the main medical complex in the Gaza Strip as patients and thousands of Palestinians are still residing inside…
Gaza under attack
35 days and counting since Israel unleashed its onslaught on the Gaza Strip, hospitals and civilian areas remain the prime target of the regime’s relentless air attacks. In its latest strikes, Israel targeted the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City, killing 13 people. The total death toll has already surpassed 11 thousand with many more still unaccounted. Meanwhile, The World Food Program has raised the alarm about the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, saying all of Gaza’s two-point-three million Palestinian inhabitants lack sufficient food and face malnutrition. The Palestinian envoy to the United Nations Office in Geneva has lashed out at the US for its “blind support” for the Israeli regime amid Tel Aviv’s ongoing genocidal war against the Gaza Strip. Addressing a UN gathering in Geneva on Friday, Ibrahim Khraishi said the American support served to encourage the regime to behave as if it was “above the law.” “The real friend of Israel,” he said, referring to Washington, “should raise the red flag in front of their face and tell them you have to stop.” More than 11,000 Palestinians, including 4,506 children, have been killed, and…
