A senior U.S. State Department official said on Monday that the United States is reiterating its opposition to an Israeli ground invasion of Lebanon aimed at Hezbollah.
The official, speaking to reporters on condition of anonymity, stated that Washington has concrete ideas to prevent a broader war between Israel and Hezbollah and is actively seeking a “way out” of the escalating tensions in the region.
The official emphasized that Washington “does not believe that Israel’s escalation to force Hezbollah to de-escalate will achieve the desired outcome of reducing tensions,” expressing disagreement with Israel’s strategy.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has been a central topic in U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s meetings this week, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
