Greek Prime Minister Calls for Syrian Territorial Integrity from Cairo
During a trilateral summit in Cairo, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of ensuring the territorial integrity of Syria and respecting minority rights. The summit, which included the Egyptian and Cypriot presidents, was part of the 10th session of the tripartite mechanism between Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece.
Mitsotakis advocated for a time-bound transitional process to guarantee that the situation does not spiral out of control, stating, “There is a need to ensure the integrity of Syrian territory, respect for minorities, and to initiate a non-permanent, time-limited transitional process to ensure things do not get out of control.”
He also touched upon the situation in Gaza, urging for ceasefire efforts, the release of hostages, and the implementation of a two-state solution.
Historical Relations
Egypt’s presidential spokesperson, Ambassador Mohamed Al-Shannawi, highlighted the depth and strength of the historical relations between Egypt and Greece. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the existing partnership. Discussions included ways to boost bilateral cooperation in various fields, particularly in economics. Both sides stressed the need to intensify collaboration within the East Mediterranean Gas Forum framework and work on implementing an electrical interconnection project between the countries.
Agreement was also reached on continuing cooperation in migration and seasonal labor recruitment, with an emphasis on expanding bilateral cooperation to encompass all areas of mutual interest.
